This channel is about the history of military aviation. If you were a fan of History Channel's Dogfights, you will enjoy this content. We similarly use computer graphics to reenact clashes between various military aircraft, but we cover a much wider range of stories, including many 'forgotten' conflicts involving Third World nations. To achieve this, we use state of the art flight simulations such as DCS World, IL-2 Great Battles and War Thunder.
Kill By Afterburner - How an F-4 Phantom Downed an Enemy Aircraft By Jet Blast
When Egypt and Syria launched their surprise attack against Israel on 06 October 1973, their plan included helicopter commando raids deep behind Israeli lines on the Sinai Peninsula. The Israeli rear area was almost undefended by ground troops and Egyptian commandos could have easily disrupted the supply lines. F-4E Phantoms were the only weapons available which could prevent such an outcome. Shooting down helicopters wasn't easy. Sun was setting, missiles were useless and Phantom pilots weren't quite sure which gun attack setting to use. One of them, Shlomo Egozy eventually used a very unusual weapon for the kill which made him and his back seater, Roy Manoff aces.

This whole video is misleading, the opposite just happened, the F4 went under the helicopter and the Egyptian pilot took the chance and shoot all his 64 air to ground rocket at the F4 and shot it down and this incident is recorded and accounted for, please remove this video

For difficult targets the Phantoms made short work of many helicopters. The downdraft, wake vortices and jet blast would undoubtedly been too much for a loaded helo to handle in such circumstances. A good and informative video.

When I was recording the scenes, I generally found it a bit easier to hit from the side. But you have to come closer and fire at the last moment.
